My Background
I started my career as a teacher, and continue to teach in my work with
clients. I believe in the importance of empowering clients with knowledge about
any interventions used in therapy, and the research supporting those interventions.
My own journey learning to cope effectively with anxiety and my love of
helping people eventually brought me to study social work at the
University of Texas at Austin, where I attained my clinical license. At UT,
I was the recipient of the Hogg Scholarship for Mental Health. During this time,
I completed a counseling internship with SafePlace, where I received extensive training on
the dyamics of abuse and sexual violence. Prior to starting my private practice in 2016,
I was a bilingual counselor at LifeWorks, one of Austin's largest nonprofit agencies.
I am a member of the National Association of Social Workers, and love learning new
techniques and theories in the field of mental health in order to continue
evolving professionally and to better serve my clients. Specific areas in which I have received
training include trauma focused
cognitive-behavioral therapy, solution focused therapy, EMDR, motivational interviewing, nonviolent
communication, and somatic experiencing. Personally, I have attended a silent ten-day mindfulness
retreat, and enjoy incorporating mindfulness techniques for clients who are interested in exploring
this practice.
When I’m not working with clients, I’m usually out walking my dog, exploring
Austin’s food scene, running my ETSY side hustle, journaling, reading, surrounding myself with positive/supportive people, and generally
just trying my best to practice what I preach and live a healthy,
vibrant life.

Someone I loved once gave me a box full of darkness.
It took me years to understand that this too, was a gift.
